WAYNE CENTRAL OPPORTUNITIES

  • Students explore the world of art outside the classroom. Students participate in at least one community service project and experiment with new and interesting art media and techniques.

  • Students participate in at least one community service project & facilitate activities that cultivate a positive environment for WCSD around the 40 Developmental Assets.  Meets at least 1x month after school, promotes leadership &  teamwork

  • An auditioned ensemble for sopranos and altos of WCSD HS.  Students must be a member of the Select Chorus or Concert Chorus.   The group performs throughout the year at regularly scheduled concerts as well as other community events.  Meets 1x  week to rehearse.

  • Beneway Boys

    For tenor and bass voices.  The ensemble sings songs ranging  from classical to rock & roll. Open to anytenor or bass that is interested in singing. You do not need to be a member of the chorus to join. The group performs at high school concerts and in the community.

  • Best Buddies operates as a student-run friendship club, which creates buddy pairs between students with and without disabilities. Best Buddies helps to create an inclusive school climate for students and a community culture of acceptance.

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters carefully matches at-risk youth from the elementary school with caring, young adult role models from the high school. The matches play games, go outside, do experiments, and create a lasting relationship throughout the school year.

  • Members learn about and educate classmates about environmental issues. They take action on environmental issues within the school such as: recycling, leading Earth Week events, and planting trees.

  • Provides a business related program with excellent opportunities for any student interested in the business world.  Students develop career competencies, leadership skills, civic/ personal responsibilities, and build friendships while at business and leadership seminars and competitions.

  • Promotes awareness of history and makes it enjoyable outside the classroom by participating in activities such as mock elections and debates. In addition, students will visit historical sites, watch historical movies and discuss them and help teachers and staff plan history related assemblies.

  • A select (you may have to audition) group of band students who perform several times throughout the year.  Jazz bands play a wide variety of musical styles; from swing and Latin to rock and funk.  The focus of Jazz band is to correctly execute style for the various types of music that is performed.  Learn how to improvise with your instrument.

  • For students that know lots of facts in areas ranging from pop culture to history to sports. Students will participate in contests against students in other districts.

  • Math Team is a competitive team in the Monroe County Math League. Mathletes enjoy mathematics and challenging math problems. Each student competes in three categories. Each category consists of three levels of questions.

  • Gives real world, behind the scenes, hands on experience with many diverse types of Audio/Video Technologies. Encompasses a wide variety of technical support skills pertaining to performing arts, plays, concerts, variety shows, and presentations.  The main objective is to encourage team building, positive communication, and  excellence through character development in preparation for future endeavors in multimedia, theater and A/V production.

  • The purpose of the team is to encourage members to participate in the scientific process, and in scientific activities.  Through competitions, members gain team-building and sportsmanship skills. Students plan and complete community service activities after the regional competition to engage the community in science.

  • A group that combines singing with dancing, like our own version of Glee Club! The group performs musical theater numbers in the annual cabaret plus other concerts throughout the year.  You can perform in group numbers or as a soloist. You must be in one of the school choirs to be in the Show Choir.

  • A club  that travels to Bristol Mountain six times throughout the winter. Open to all students.

  • Plans programs and activities beneficial to the high school. These activities include:  Homecoming Parade, PowderPuff football game, Eagle Ball, and Moving Up Day. This club gives leadership and direction to student activities. 

  • Is open to anyone that has a passion for musical theater.  Students wishing to perform in the show must audition. Auditions take place in November.  Rehearsals for the cast are generally Monday - Thursday 3-6 and some Saturdays.   Students wishing to be on the stage crew are welcome and are required to be at rehearsals the last month before the show.

  • For those interested in competing against other students in other districts in New York State using new technology.  Students participate in Tech Wars in May.

  • An organization based on the ideals of sportsmanship, created to promote participation in and a high standard of athletics and fellowship among varsity athletes.

  • Creates the yearly high school yearbook using Adobe products. Members design, plan, write and proofread each page of the yearbook. Club members  attend high school events to take pictures for inclusion in the book.
