A few reminders for the first day of school on Tuesday
Good afternoon, high school students and families,
We hope you have a wonderful Labor Day weekend, and we can't wait to welcome you back on Tuesday!
As we prepare for the first day of school on Tuesday, we wanted to share the following reminders:
1) Distraction-Free Schools. Click here for the Q&A document we previously shared. We appreciate all of the supportive and proactive conversations we have had over the summer, and we look forward to continuing to partner with you as the NYS Distraction-Free Schools law goes into effect next week:
From 7:45AM until 2:22PM, student cell phones and personal internet-enabled devices (i.e., smartwatches, tablets, computers, wireless headphones/earbuds/AirPods, and any other device capable of internet access and messaging) must be turned off and placed in a student's locker. This includes lunch and passing time between periods. Use is only permitted after the school day ends. To help reduce distractions and the temptation of connecting to phones and other devices through Bluetooth, students should bring wired headphones/earbuds for their academic needs. If a student does not have wired headphones/earbuds, the district will provide a pair for them.
When can students use their phones/internet-enabled device(s)?
-
Before 7:45AM – Allowed
7:40AM – There will be a P.A. announcement to remind students to store their devices in their lockers.
After 2:22PM – Allowed
On the bus before and after school -– Allowed
During the school day (7:45AM–2:22PM) – Not Allowed
WTCC/New Vision/Multi-Occ bus – Not Allowed
What happens if a student is seen with their phone or internet-enabled device during the school day (7:45AM–2:22PM)?
To support a focused and distraction-free learning environment, students are not permitted to have phones or other internet-enabled devices visible during school hours. If a student’s device is seen or heard during this time — whether it's being used or not — it will be collected and secured in the main office for the remainder of the day.
The phone/device will only be released to a parent or guardian in person; the student will not be able to pick it up themselves.
An office referral will be written and repeated violations may result in additional consequences, including loss of other privileges.
2) All BOCES programs (WTCC/New Visions/Multi-Occ) begin on Wednesday, September 3rd. On Tuesday, September 2nd ONLY, 12th grade WTCC/New Vision AM students can report to school when they have their first scheduled class at the high school. Similarly, 11th/12th grade WTCC/New Vision PM students can sign out of school after 5th period if they have parent permission. If you wish to have your student signed out for the first day ONLY, please email Mrs. Parker, our school nurse, at kparker@waynecsd.org
3) Student drivers: If you are student who is planning to drive to school, please do not do so unless you have completed the student parking registration form. Parking passes with designated spot numbers will be distributed on the first two days of school during lunches.
4) Drop-off and pick-up: 1st Period begins at 7:45AM Each morning, all buses will be dropping off students at the clock tower entrance (door #19). Student drop-off will be from 7:30-7:44AM in the cafeteria loop (door #7). Parents, please pull up as far forward as possible in the cafeteria loop, so we can allow more cars to enter the loop safely. Any student arriving after 7:45AM will need to be dropped off in the main entrance loop. They will sign in with the main office secretary and receive a pass to class. Students leaving early with parent permission must sign out in the main office prior to exiting the building through the main entrance. Parents, if you need to drop anything off during the school day (e.g., supplies, medication, etc.), please plan on parking and entering from the main entrance loop as well. Similar to last year at dismissal time, buses will depart from both the clock tower (south campus) and the athletic entrance/cafeteria loop (north campus). Parent pick-up will be in the main entrance loop.
5) Student schedules and Chromebooks: Students, please take a moment this weekend to review your schedule. Printed copies will also be available in your first period classes. In addition, student Chromebooks will also be distributed during your first period classes on Tuesday.6) Open House - Next Thursday: Finally, we look forward to seeing you at our annual Open House next Thursday, September 4th from 6:00-7:00PM. *New* this year: the Macarollin food truck with their top-selling entries, Cheesy Eddie's dessert, and beverages will be on campus from 5:00-7:00PM in the north bus loop.

As always, please reach out to us with any questions.
Best,
Dr. Jason Berger, Principal
Ms. Jacqueline Senecal, Assistant Principal
Mr. Ryan Teeter, Assistant Principal
